What is the radio coverage of LoRaWAN?
In urban areas the typical range is 2–5 km per gateway; in rural areas with line of sight it exceeds 10 km. Outdoor coverage alone is not enough, though: what matters is reaching the meter inside its pit (cast iron, depth, humidity). That is why the platform measures the radio margin of every transmission and the network is densified where the numbers say so — including gateways with cellular backhaul operated by ICCOM.
Which meters is HydroGuard compatible with?
Any meter with a documented payload: 19 families are already decoded, from the main European manufacturers to local producers. Meters using W-MBus OMS are supported, as are retrofit modules that digitise existing meters. Qualification requirement: complete documentation, unique keys handed over, and a verified decoder — your guarantee against lock-in.
How often is data transmitted?
The meter records hourly indices and transmits them in aggregated form 1–2 times a day: a full hourly profile without sacrificing battery life. Alarms (leak, reverse flow, tampering) are sent in real time, outside the ordinary cycle. Network sensors (pressure, flow) can transmit as often as every 5–15 minutes.
What happens if a meter loses its connection?
It keeps recording to its local buffer (≥30 days on qualified meters). On reconnection the platform automatically recovers up to 90 days of readings, flagging them as recovered without overwriting live data. The dashboard flags silent devices immediately, and completeness before and after recovery is a separate, verifiable KPI.
What is ChirpStack and why do you use it?
It is the open-source LoRaWAN network server we operate in the ICCOM datacentre: full control of the data, no lock-in to proprietary vendors. One important architectural note: in HydroGuard the network server is never the source of truth — every configuration lives in the platform and is synchronised with automatic retries, so a network-server outage loses nothing.
How long does installation take?
A meter is installed and commissioned in 15–30 minutes, including the pit survey (photo, depth, cover material) from the app. A gateway is configured in under an hour. A 100-point pilot is operational in 2–3 weeks; the Demo Kit in 2–5 working days.
Commercial
What is the pricing model?
Two transparent components — a platform fee plus a per-meter fee — calibrated to your project: number of connections, meter mix and required service level. Gateways, SIMs, network server and radio-network maintenance are an ICCOM investment, included in the service. CAPEX options with direct hardware purchase are also available.
Request a quote tailored to your network.
Can we try before deciding?
Yes: the Demo Kit includes a portable gateway and 5–10 pre-configured meters, installed in 2–5 days, with a 90-day trial and a final report of the KPIs measured on your own network — including tests in closed meter pits.
What are the contractual terms?
The standard service contract is multi-year with a fixed fee and SLAs measured by the platform itself (not self-declared). Dedicated terms for multi-utilities and high-volume areas; full portability of data, keys and decoders guaranteed contractually.
How long until we see a return on investment?
In typical sizings payback is under 3 years, driven by the reduction in reading costs (−83%) and by recovered losses. Where public funding is available, or where roll-out is aligned with metrological renewal, the timeline shortens. A figure for your own network is built during the free assessment, on your data.
Can the solution be funded by public programmes?
Frequently, yes: leakage reduction and water-network digitalisation are eligible under several national and EU funding lines. We provide documentation support for the application and dashboard KPIs that can be reported to the controlling bodies.
Compliance & security
How does HydroGuard support regulatory obligations?
Technical-quality indicator reports and authority reports by tariff category are generated automatically from measurement data, with an immutable audit trail. The tariff engine applies banded tariffs; exports are produced in the required formats.
How is personal data protected (GDPR)?
Pseudonymisation by design: the radio network only sees technical serial numbers, and the link to a customer account lives in the application layer with role-based access. PII encrypted at rest (AES-256), right to erasure and portability implemented, ten-year compliant fiscal archiving of invoices.
Is HydroGuard ready for the NIS2 directive?
Yes: an incident register with an early-warning and notification flow inside the directive's deadlines, automatic escalation on due dates, strong authentication (MFA), hash-chained audit and response runbooks — including supply-chain compromise.
Is the data ready for audits and inspections?
Every data point is tracked with a timestamp, its source (radio, walk-by, manual, buffer recovery) and an immutable hash-chained operations log: tampering with a single row is mathematically detectable. Evidence for funding audits, authorities and the regulator is exported from the platform.
Where does the data live, and who owns it?
Datacentres in the EU, with an on-premise option on the Enterprise profile. Data, device keys and decoders remain the utility's property, contractually: changing supplier always remains possible.
Support
What SLA is guaranteed?
99.9% uptime on the Professional profile and 99.99% on Enterprise — measured by the platform itself and verifiable by the utility. Response within 4 hours for high-severity issues; on Enterprise, 24/7 support with intervention within 2 hours.
Which support channels are available?
Email, phone and tickets from the dashboard. Enterprise customers get a dedicated account manager and a direct channel to the engineering team — the platform is developed in-house by ICCOM, with no intermediaries.
Is training provided for staff?
Every project includes initial training for operators and administrators, in your language. Advanced modules are available on analytics, water balance, alarm management and platform configuration.
How are updates handled?
The platform is updated without service interruption, with automated tests on every release. Device firmware is updated over the air (where the manufacturer supports it) during planned maintenance windows.
